Bachelor of Applied Information Technology, Wintec 2025

Originally from Sri Lanka, I got hooked on technology and gaming young, and that competitive streak has never really left me. Esports, sport, academics. Whatever it was, I went all in. I moved to New Zealand to study for my Bachelor's at Wintec and haven't looked back, building a career in IT while staying just as active outside of it.

I was a professional esports player, competing in Fortnite, Rainbow Six Siege, and Sim Racing at a national level in Sri Lanka. I came 3rd in Sri Lanka at the SLT Esports Championship, won the SLT Inter-School Esports Championship captaining my team to first place, and took home a Logitech Sri Lanka esports title. These days that competitiveness shows up on the football pitch instead. I play Division 3 football at Hamilton Northern United and I'm in the gym most weeks. Away from that, I'm a big F1 fan, I'll watch pretty much any football, and I love go-karting and driving.

In my professional life, I bring the same intensity. I pick things up fast, communicate clearly, and always aim to contribute from day one. I'm excited to grow my career in a role where I can make a real impact.

LMK: Let Me Know

A reminder app that actually understands what you mean. Type it, say it out loud, or snap a photo of a handwritten list. LMK figures out the time, the place, and what you're asking for. A solo project: I designed it, built the whole app, and built the backend behind it.

See how it works

AI parsing · location awareness · full Supabase backend

Understanding what you mean

  • Reminders come from typing, talking, or a photo. A snapped to-do list gets read on-device (nothing leaves the phone until it's plain text) and turned into real reminders.
  • Google's Gemini models turn an ordinary sentence into a structured reminder: time, place, repeat pattern, even which list it belongs on.
  • Say something vague like "the mall" and it asks which one instead of guessing wrong.

Reminders you can't accidentally ignore

  • Notifications stay on screen and re-alert every 30 minutes until you actually deal with them.
  • Done, Snooze, and Delete all work straight from the notification, even with the app fully closed, through a background task that runs with no UI at all.
  • Exact-alarm scheduling so Android doesn't quietly delay or batch them.

Knows where you are

  • Geofencing for "remind me when I get to work" or "when I leave the gym," built to tell a genuine arrival apart from the phone briefly losing GPS.
  • Saved places like "Home" and "Work" so casual phrasing resolves on its own.
  • Real place search through Google Places, so "the supermarket" finds the actual nearest one rather than a rough guess.

A real backend, not just a demo

  • Accounts, authentication, and a Postgres database with row-level security, through Supabase.
  • The AI and Places API keys never ship inside the app. They sit behind Supabase Edge Functions with a per-user daily quota, so a leaked key can't run up a surprise bill.
  • Free and premium tiers, calendar sync, and reminders that sync across devices.

I designed, built, and tested every part of this myself, including sideloading it onto my own Android phone for real-world testing instead of relying only on an emulator.
